Tribe of Gad
State Medal, 1994 5754
The Tribe of Gad Medal is the seventh in series of the Twelve Tribes created by Salvador Dali in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the State of Israel. The inspiration for depicting the Tribe of Gad as the Camp of God is drawn from Jacob's blessing of Gad: "Gad shall be raided by raiders, but he shall raid at their heels" (Genesis 49:19). The raiders of Gad are depicted as a tent encampment spread out over a plain.
Obverse: Tribe of "Gad" - a colored silkscreen depicting a desert encampment and blue sky. The inscription "GAD" in Hebrew and English. Below, the artist's signature.
Reverse: Dali's work "Hora around the Menorah" from his "Aliyah" series. Below, artist's name in Hebrew.
Edge:
State emblem with the words "STATE OF ISRAEL' in Hebrew on the right and in English on the left and serial number. Bronze/tombac medal - "BRONZE" in Hebrew and English; Silver medal - "S 999" in Hebrew and English; gold medal - "G.750" in Hebrew and English.
