The Supreme Court
State Medal, 1992/5752
The Supreme Court is the highest judicial forum in the State of Israel and peak of the Judiciary branch of Israel's government. It is empowered to hear appeals on judgments of district, criminal, magistrates', religious and military courts and disciplinary tribunals. The Supreme Court exercises special jurisdiction when sitting as a High Court of Justice. The Supreme Court sits in a panel of three justices, or any greater uneven number. Certain matters are heard before a single justice. The Supreme Court building in Jerusalem was made possible by a contribution of the Rothschild Foundation and the initiative of the late Dorothy de Rothschild. This medal marks the dedication of the building in November 1992.
Obverse: The new Supreme Court building in Jerusalem and the State emblem. The inscriptions "THE SUPREME COURT" and "ISRAEL' in Hebrew, Arabic and English.
Reverse: Hallway of the Supreme Court building, with Star of David at its end, symbolizing the justice which emanates from within. The verse "ZION SHALL BE REDEEMED BY JUSTICE" and the source "ISAIAH 1-27" in Hebrew and English.
Edge: State emblem, the words "STATE OF ISRAEL' in Hebrew and in English and serial number. Bronze/tombac medal - "BRONZE" in Hebrew and English; Silver medal - "S 935" in Hebrew and English; gold medal - "G 750" in Hebrew and English.
