GETHSEMANE
First in the "Holy Land Sites" Series

Gethsemane, Greek for "olive press" is the name of a garden with eight olive trees, at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. According to Christian tradition, this is the place where Jesus prayed and his disciples slept after "The Last Supper", the night before the crucifixion.

The Church of All Nations, constructed in the 1920s near the foot of the Mount of Olives, is built over the rock on which Jesus is believed to have prayed in agony the night before he was crucified.

The Garden of Gethsemane became a focal site for early Christian pilgrims.
