Israel's 31st Anniversary of Independence Coin

The Israel Declaration of Independence guarantees "complete social and political equality to all... without regard to religion, race or sex". The equality for women was set forth in detail in special legislation. The active role of women in public life in Israel has been evident from the beginning of Jewish resettlement in the land. They continue to influence social and political issues, both as individuals and as organized groups, as active heads of economic institutions, inside the Knesset and in the leadership of the country. The women of Israel have established model institutions for the care of children.

Obverse: Face value of "50 Lirot" in Hebrew. Below, the Israel State Emblem, word "Israel" in Hebrew, Arabic and English and mint year "5739-1979".

Reverse: A figure of a woman at play with two children, and the legend: "Mother of Children" (Psalm 113:9) in Hebrew and English.

Mint Marks: On the obverse of the B.U. coin, a Star of David, on the obverse of the proof coin, the Hebrew letter "mem", in the lower border, beneath the State Emblem.
