50th Anniversary of the Cameri Theater
Official Award Medal, 1994 5754

The Cameri Theater was founded in 1944 by Yosef Milo and a group of actors who wished to create a young, Israeli theater, in a format distinct from that already existing in Israel. From the beginning, the artistic hallmarks which characterize the Cameri to this day were clearly evident: encouragement of original plays and Israeli talent, awareness of international trends in modern drama, and presentation of classical works translated by the most outstanding Hebrew writers. Since 1971, the Cameri has been the municipal theater of Tel Aviv-Yafo. The board of directors of the theater, headed by the mayor of Tel Aviv, includes representatives from the arts and theater and public figures.

Obverse: Stylized Hebrew inscription "50 years of Israeli theater" and emblem of the Cameri beneath it - inscribed in Hebrew "The Cameri of Tel Aviv" within a rectangular frame.

Reverse: Passage from Hebrew poem and the author's name, "Nathan Alterman".

Edge: IGCMC emblem; initials "I.G.C.M.C." in English (left) and Hebrew (right); "BRONZE" in Hebrew and English, and serial number.

Serialization: All medals are numbered.

Designer: Shimon Zandhaus.

Engraving: Kretschmer.

Mint: Kretschmer.
