BEIT SHEMESH
Official Medal 2008/5768
Second in the “CITIES OF ISRAEL” Series

The second medal in this series, a special national initiative in cooperation with the Union of Local Authorities in Israel, honors the city of Beit Shemesh.
Beit Shemesh is a city of the future, with a rich and distinguished past. The sons of Aaron the Priest were here 3,300 years ago, and the Kings of Judaea waged wars on her borders. Situated between Jerusalem and the coastal plain, blessed with breathtaking views of forests and nature preserves, moderate climate and clear mountain air, Beit Shemesh is enjoying an unprecedented period of building, expansion, and immigrant absorption.

Obverse: On the face of the medal, a sculpture of the Holy Ark by the artist Afik Peli located in the Beit Shemesh Sculpture Garden; in the background, the Education Center. Around the circumference appears the verse:"and they of Beit Shemesh were reaping…and saw the Ark, and rejoiced…" (Samuel I, 6).

Reverse: On the common reverse of all the medals in the series an urban landscape, the emblem of the State of Israel, and the emblem of the Union of Local Authorities in Israel.

Edge: Smooth.
