Israel-Canada Friendship
State Medal, 5727-1967

Relations between Israel and Canada are based on a firm foundation of Canadian friendship which found its expression during Israel's struggle for independence and during the debate in the United Nations aiming at a solution to the Palestine problem. Canada, still a pioneering land of continuous development, has a sympathetic understanding of the pioneering character of the settlement effort in Israel, as well as an appreciation of the democratic form of Israel's government.
In issuing the medal, marking a century of Canadian Federation, Israel honors for the first time, the national celebration of another country, by way of issuing a numismatic item.

Obverse
In the center, a stylized maple leaf (Canada's emblem) mounted upon a Star of David. The leaf stem is flanked by the date "1867-1967". The words "State of Israel" appear parallel to the two lower corners of the Star of David to the right and a seven branch candelabra on the left. Around the rim, an inscription in English and French: "Israel Salutes Canada's Centennial".

Reverse
Above, a sculptured map of Canada. At the bottom, in a continuous movement, words emerging: "And Peace Without End" (Isaiah 9:6) in Hebrew, French and English.

Edge
Milled.
