The Israel Archaeological Research Society is active in three main areas: archaeological excavations, publication of archaeological news and the dissemination of information to the general public. The major archaeological excavations carried out by the Society, or together with other archaeological institutions are : Beit Shearim, Tel-Kasila, Hatzor, Ramat Rahel, Massada, the Judean Wilderness Caves, Ein Gedi, Arad, Lachish, Ofek, Jericho, Herodion, Yokneam, David, Jerusalem excavations, (The Western Wall, Jewish Quarter and the City of David) as well as other smaller excavation sites such as Tei-Romeida (Hebron), Hamat Geder, Tel-Grisa, Tel-Hama, and others. The following are regular publications: Kadmoniyot, the Israel Antiquities and Land of the Bible quarterly, in the Hebrew language and in its 20th year of publication; The Israel Exploration Journal, the outstanding publication about Israeli archaeology, in the English language which has been published over the past 37 years; The Land of Israel publication reports on research related to antiquities. Every two years an additional volume is published, honoring researchers who are members of the Society. Another major activity of the Society is the publication of the Encyclopedia for Archaeological Excavations in the Land of Israel, in both Hebrew and English. The Society, jointly with Karta, published a special edition of the Encyclopedia which covers 100 years of excavations in Israel.

Reverse: The verse "Truth will spring out of the earth" (Psalms 85:12) in Hebrew and English, and an archaelogical site.

Edge: The emblem of the State of Israel. The words "State of Israel" in Hebrew and English and the serial number.

Serialization: The medals are numbered. 1,778 numbered, 364 melted
