110th Anniversary of Yesud Ha-Maala
Official Award Medal, 1995 5755
The moshava Yesud Ha-Maala which renewed Jewish settlement in the Hula Valley, was founded in 1883. The first settlers were immigrants from Poland and residents of Safed. During the War of Independence, the moshava stood steadfast against the Syrians who invaded from the east and served as a base for operations at Nebi-Yusha against an invasion from Lebanon. In 1956, after the draining of the Hula Lake, agricultural areas grew and a process of growth and development began. Immigrants from Cochin were absorbed in the community. Until the Six-Day War, the moshava suffered from Syrian shelling from the Golan Heights. The heroic history of the pioneer settlers in the Hula valley is commemorated in this medal.
Obverse: Emblem of Yesud Ha-Maala. From it, emerges a row of buildings similar to the one represented in the emblem. Along the upper circumference, in Hebrew, the inscription "renews the Jewish settlement of the Hula Valley". Below, in Hebrew and in English along the circumference, "110th ANNIVERSARY OF YESUD HA-MAALA".
Reverse: View of Yesud Ha-Maala with mountains and plants in the background. Below, in Hebrew, a passage from Ezra 7:9.
