Haifa's soccer fans had a lot to celebrate this year as Maccabi Haifa F.C. played the entire season-39 games-without losing a single one. 28 wins, 11 draws and a total of 97 goals. Not for nothing were they described by the sportes writers as the best team in the history of Israeli soccer. The fans had an added bonus in the international arena as well when Maccabi Haifa beat the reigning European champion Parma, of the Italian league one of the world's best, in the European cup holders games.
The lineup of: Avraham Abukrat, Eitan Aharoni, Rafi Coben, Asraf Damoni, Roman Petz. Marco Balbul, Moshe Glam. Alon Harazi, Ank Benado, Daniel Tsabar, Golan Deri, Shay Holtzman, Reuven Atar, Ronny Levy, Sergei Kandaurov, Eyal Berkowitz, Benjamin Beliti, Ivan Gerzko, Alon Mizrahi and Alon Hazan, constituted a team even better than the famous Israeli teams of the 1950s, which had some superb soccer players on an international level.
