Salvador Dali "Twelve Tribes of Israel"
Set of 12 State Art Medals – 18k Gold Edition
Rare Set, one only, purchased from collector and offered for sale, a one-time opportunity
Salvador Dali created a series of etchings of the Twelve Tribes of Israel in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the State of Israel. He was fascinated by the establishment of the Jewish State and rebirth of its culture after two thousand years of exile. Although he was a surrealist artist, he created these designs that were based on the Bible.
Each of the medals was struck in 18k gold, in a mintage that was not to exceed 650. Each medal is oval, measuring 45x36mm (1.77x1.4 in). Every detail of Salvador Dali's works of art was perfectly reproduced by use of a special production technique with color.
Salvador Dali was a Spanish artist and one of the world's most renowned artists of the 20th century. His early works were influenced by Cubism. At a later stage, his art showed signs of metaphysical painting. In 1929, Dali joined the Surrealist Movement – the French avant-garde movement influenced by Freudian theories. Together with the Art Director Luis Bunuel, Dali created the first surrealist films. In face of criticism directed towards him by some of his counterpart artists, Dali was identified in world public opinion as "the" surrealist. From the Second World War, Dali started to create jewelry, clay objects and sculptures, in addition to his paintings. He is known for his eccentric habits and behavior.
