150th Anniversary of the Birth of Theodor Herzl

State Medal 2010/5770

"If you will it, it is no dream" – "Achievements of the State of Israel on the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Theodor Herzl" is the theme of this 62nd Anniversary Year of the State of Israel, approved by the Ministerial Committee for Symbols & Ceremonies.

Theodor Herzl, a statesman and writer, father of political Zionism and founder of the World Zionist Organization, was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1860. For his profound concern in the face of growing anti-Semitism around the world and the plight of the Jewish people, combined with his tireless efforts to realize his dream of establishing a Jewish State, Herzl became known as the "Visionary of the State of Israel". Theodor Herzl is buried in Jerusalem on Mt. Herzl, named after him, and the burial place of Israel’s fallen soldiers and statesmen.

The Israel Coins and Medals Corporation (ICMC) is proud to issue the State Medal in commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Theodor Herzl, in compliance with the decision of the Ministerial Committee for Symbols & Ceremonies. The medal pays homage to Herzl for the pivotal role he played in shaping Jewish and Israeli history.
