Set of Five Souvenir Cards of the Second Series Banknotes
Limited Edition of 1999 numbered sets

The second Series of Banknotes entered circulation between 1959 and 1960, gradually replacing the preceding series, which had received much public criticism for its abstract drawings. In order to determine the design of the Second Series, the Governor of the Bank of Israel, David Horowitz, decided to set up a special public committee, which still functions to this day. This committee selected different representations of the modern Israeli persona to appear on Notes of the Second Series. In contrast to the previous Notes which were designed by British artists, this time, Israeli artists drew the illustrations for the banknotes. The form and size of the Notes were different from the first series and they were printed at state or state-controlled presses in Europe.
The portrayals of the female soldier, the fisherman, the worker, the scientist and the pioneers embody the pioneering and ideological spirit of the young State of Israel and the image of the new society which it was creating. Looking at these notes stirs up nostalgia for the early days of the State. This set includes five souvenir replica Notes, with the exact colors of the originals, accompanied by a brief explanation of each note.
