Hanukka Coin 5721-1960 Henrietta Szold


The third of the Hanukkah coins is dedicated to Henrietta Szold on the occasion of the centenary of her birth in 1860. Henrietta Szold, founder of the Women's Zionist Organization of America, was a pioneer of Youth Aliya and active in other undertakings connected with the upbringing of unprivileged children . She is also credited with the founding of modern medical services in Israel.

Obverse:

Reverse:
A cloaked figure of a shepherdess tenderly enfolding a new-born lamb in her arms, symbolizing Henrietta Szold's contribution to Youth Aliya and her love and concern for frail children. To the left, Henrietta Szold in Hebrew characters and below, her year of birth, mint year of the coin and words "Hadassah - Youth Aliya" in Hebrew.
