Second Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition
State Medal, 5737-1977

The Second International Piano Competition, named after Arthur Rubinstein, took place in March 1977 marking the maestro's 90th birthday. The first competition took place in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in 1974.

Obverse: A portrait of Arthur Rubinstein based on a Picasso drawing.

Reverse: All round the rim, the legend 'Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition Jerusalem 5737". Above, the State emblem. In the center is the English translation, the date being 1977.

Edge: The State emblem and the words "State of Israel" in Hebrew and English. The silver medals have "Silver 935" in Hebrew and "Sterling" in English. The gold medals have "G 916.6" and Rubinstein's signature.

Serialization: All medals are numbered.

Designer: Obverse - Portrait by Picasso. Reverse - Nelo Wolfson and Ya'akov Anidi.

Engraving: Moshe Nov.

Mint: Bronze and Silver - Kretschmer. Gold - The Israel Government Mint, Jerusalem.
