Tribe of Judah

Tribe of Judah medal is the sixth in the series of twelve drawings by Salvador Dali in honor of the 25th versary of the State of Israel. Dali drew the inspiration for depicting Judah as crouching lions from Jacob's tig: "Like a lion's whelp, O Judah, from the prey, my son, thou risest: he stoopeth down, he croucheth a lion, and as a lioness, who shall rouse him up?" (Genesis 49:9). The lion is the symbol of the Tribe of ~% from which the royal House of David emerged. Today, the lion is still the symbol of Jerusalem, capital Davidic dynasty and of the State of Israel.
