American Eagle

The American Eagle is the popular bullion coin in North America. This coin has been issued since 1986 in weights of one ounce (diameter 32.7mm, thickness 2.87mm, total weight 33.93 grams, face value $50), half ounce, quarter ounce and tenth ounce. It is 22k gold and includes a silver and copper alloy giving it better hardness.

According to a decision made by Congress, the American Eagle is struck at the national mint of the United States of America (US Mint), solely from gold mined in the United States. The USA government guarantees the gold fineness, weight and composition of the coin, by law. The American Eagle is legal tender in the USA and its symbolic face value is $50.

The coin obverse depicts an image of the "Liberty" god carrying a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. In the background is the Capitol Building and sunrise. The coin is inscribed with the word "Liberty" and the mint year. On the reverse is the American eagle with its family in an eagle's nest, beside inscriptions "United States of America" and "E Pluribus Unum" in Latin meaning "out of many, one", and "In God We Trust".

The American Eagle coin is a common gold coin that can be redeemed with relative ease in the majority of countries.
