PETACH TIKVA
Official Medal 2008/5769
Sixth Medal in the “CITIES IN ISRAEL” Series
In the summer of 1878/5638, Jews from the Old City of Jerusalem settled in a desolate, swamp area that today is Petach Tikva. In 2008, the “Mother of Agricultural Settlements” celebrates its 130th anniversary. Over the years, agriculture gave way to industry, and in recent years to hi- tech companies. Today, Petach Tikva is among the largest and most modern cities and industrial zones in Israel.
Obverse: The Petach Tikva Medal features Old vs. New: the entrance to the home of the Baron Edmund de Rothschild, alongside the city’s famous “Chords” Bridge. The orange represents the agricultural origins of the “moshava” (agricultural town).
Reverse: The common reverse of all medals in the series an Israeli urban landscape, the emblem of the State of Israel, and the emblem of the Union of Local Authorities in Israel.
Edge: Smooth
Designer: Meir Eshel.
Engraving: USA.
Mint: Silver and Bronze medals: USA. Gold medal: ICMC Mint.
Issue Name: Cities in Israel, Petach Tikva
