Sixth in the "Israel Prime Minister" Series

Yitzhak Rabin was born in Jerusalem in 1922. In 1940, he joined the Palmach. In the Israel Defense Force he became Head of the Operational Division of General Command and in 1964, was appointed Chief of Staff. In 1967, Rabin led the IDF to victory in the Six Day War. In 1973, he served as Minister of Labor and was later elected as Chairman of the Labor Party and Prime Minister, from which he resigned in 1977. After seven years as a Knesset Member, Rabin was appointed Minister of Defense in the National Unity Government, which he held until 1990. In 1992, Yitzhak Rabin once again became Prime Minister and Defense Minister and a year later, signed the Declaration of Principles with the PLO. In 1994, together with King Hussein, he signed the "Washington Declaration". In October of that same year, he signed the Peace Agreement with Jordan and later, received the Nobel Peace Prize with Shimon Peres. On November 4, 1995, Yitzhak Rabin was tragically assassinated in Tel Aviv, at the conclusion of a peace rally. The nation remained in shock. Rabin was laid to rest on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem and leaders from all over the world attended his State funeral
