Israel's 35th Anniversary of Independence Coin, 1983/5743
During the War of Independence in 1948, the State of Israel was proclaimed. At the 35th Anniversary of the War, the Bank of Israel issued a commemorative coin dedicated to the Israel Defense Forces. The IDF is the army of the Israeli nation and defends the existence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the State of Israel.
The IDF was established two weeks after the Proclamation of Independence of the State of Israel.
Its activities include:
1. Defending the existence of the State by taking deterrent action when Israel's sovereignty or its citizens are threatened by enemy aggression.
2. Defense of the State of Israel against enemy armies in war.
Between 1948 and 1983, the IDF fought the War of Independence, the Sinai Campaign, the Six-Day War, the War of Attrition, the Yom Kippur War and the "Peace for Galilee" War.
3. Ongoing security action to enable the country's citizens to continue normal and productive daily life.
