S.S. Shalom

S.S. Shalom constructed in the shipyards of St. 'Nazaire, France, is the flagship of Zim, the national maritime company. The ship is of 24,500 tons decorated and adorned by well known Israeli artists and others from various countries. It was built as a luxury liner plying between Israeli, European and American ports.

Obverse: A replica of S.S. Shalom shown across a steering wheel which has eight spokes. Above the ship, seven stars from Zim's emblem. On the rim, between the spaces of the lower spokes the Hebrew inscription, "S.S. Shalom, 5724-1964" and the name "S.S. Shalom" in English.

Reverse: A steering wheel constitutes the frame of the medal. In the center, a replica of a sail ship of Tarshish, dating back to King Solomon's time, and underneath an inscription, "King Solomon made a navy of ships" (First Kings 9:26). Within the space of the lower spokes, the English version of the inscription.

Edge: The State emblem and the words "State of Israel" in Hebrew and English. The silver medals bear the English "Sterling" and in Hebrew "Silver 935".

Serialization: The silver 59mm medals are numerically serialized from 0101 to 1440. Of these 1340 have been minted and 170 have been melted.
