ONE HUNDRED ISRAELI LIROT - HERZL
NOTABLE PERSONALITIES SERIES
Silver/999, 5 grams
The Notable Personalities Series replaced the Representative Figures Series in 1969, and the new series was the first to include a 100 Lira banknote.
For this series, central figures of the Jewish nation were chosen - Albert Einstein, Chaim Nachman Bialik, Chaim Weizmann and Theodor Herzl - in contrast to the previous series, in which anonymous figures representing the different sectors of Israeli society appeared on the banknotes. Each of the personalities gracing the new series had forged a strong impression in Jewish history. From this point on, all banknotes issued by the State of Israel have been illustrated with portraits of former prime ministers, presidents or notable personalities who have left a significant mark on the Jewish nation.
In this series the back of each banknote depicts a subject associated with the personality whose portrait appears on the front:
- Theodor Herzl on the front of the 100 Lira banknote with the State of Israel emblem surrounded by the emblems of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, on the back.
- Chaim Weizmann on the front of the 50 Lira banknote and the Knesset building in Jerusalem, on the back.
- Chaim Nachman on the front of the 10 Lira banknote and his home in Tel Aviv, on the back.
- Albert Einstein on the front of the 5 Lira banknote, and the atomic research reactor in Nahal Sorek, on the back.
