Israel's 23rd Anniversary of Independence Coin 5731-1971

Science-based industries are those employing advanced research and development so that the resultant products will have a greater chance of penetrating markets.
Science-based industrial parks were established in Jerusalem, Haifa, Rehovot and at the Center for Atomic Research at Nahal Sorek.
Industries located at these centers benefited from the advanced know-how coming from the laboratories of these institutes of research and advanced scientific learning.
The Ministry of Defense and the Israel Defense Forces also maintained laboratories and research facilities to assist in the development of defense products.

Obverse: Above, the face value "10 Israeli Lirot" in Hebrew. In the center, a stylized design of the atomic reactor building at Nahal Sorek. Below, the mint year "5731-1971" in Hebrew and English. Around the lower border, the word "Israel" in English, Hebrew and Arabic.

Reverse: Around the upper border, the Hebrew inscription "Science in the Service of Industry". A representation of a cog-wheel rotating a molecule slightly off-center, conveying the impression of motion.

Edge:
"23rd Year of the State of Israel" towards the obverse or reverse of the coin.

Mint Marks:
On the obverse of the B.U. coin, the Star of David, left of the building.
On the obverse of the proof coin, the letter "mem" right of the building.
The coins minted at Utrecht do not have the Star of David.
