''Israel Shall Blossom''
Israel's 14th Anniversary of Independence Coin 5722-1962
The words "Israel shall blossom" appear in Isaiah's prophecy:
"In days to come shall Jacob take root, Israel shall sprout and blossom And they shall fill the world with abundance." (Isaiah 27:6)
The passage carries with it a symbolic allusion to the potential for unearthing of vital minerals and raw materials in undeveloped areas, such as the Negev.
Obverse: On the right a schematic representation of industrial equipment. Below, the word "Israel" in Hebrew and Arabic and mint year "5722-1962". Upper left, the face value "5 Israeli Lirot" in Hebrew.
Reverse: A stylized power-shovel appearing in stark contrast to the background of barren hills. Below the Hebrew inscription "Israel shall blossom".
Edge:
In Hebrew the incuse inscription "Fourteenth year of the State of Israel". The inscription faces the reverse.
Mint Marks: On the Proof coin, Hebrew letter "mem" to the right on the lower border.
Designer: Zvi Narkiss.
Mint: Royal Dutch Mint, Utrecht, Holland.
