60th Anniversary of Bat-Yam

Bat-Yam is a seaside community, south of Jaffa. It has its origins in a garden neighborhood called "Home and Garden", Its name was changed to Bat-Yam when it was assigned the status of a local municipality in 1936. During the 1936-1939 disturbances, and at the beginning of the War of Independence, Bat-Yam was cut off from Tel Aviv. The rapid development of Bat-Yam commenced in 1950 with the absorption of a large number of immigrants. In 1958, it was awarded the status of a City. Its economy is rooted in industry, commerce and agriculture. Its beach front and promenade are tourist attractions.
