Official Award Medal, 5739-1979
"Hapoel" a sports organization, connected to the General Federation of Labour, was founded in Haifa in 1924. "Hapoel" was a pioneer in water sports, and "Hapoel Units" fulfilled defense roles. "Hapoel" has hundreds of branches throughout the country, many of them in immigration settlements and in workers villages.
The first National Congress took place in 1928. At later congresses Labour sports organizations from abroad participated. The 11th Congress took place in 1979.
Obverse
In the centre on the left, the Congress emblem and the inscription: "Hapoel Games". On the rim, to the right, an inscription: "Many and Medalists" (a motto characteristic of popular sports' organizations), in Hebrew, Arabic and English.
Reverse
In the centre, figures of athletes engaged in various sports activities and a citation from Isaiah (40:31), 'They shall run and not be weary". On the rim, below, the citation in English.
Edge
The emblem of the Israel Government Coins and Medals Corporation, and its initials in Hebrew and English.
Serialization
All the medals have been numbered.
