Tel Aviv Museum
Official Award Medal, 5731-1971

The first mayor of Tel Aviv, Meir Dizengof, assigned his private home in 1 931 as a home for Tel Aviv's museum. As years went by the house on Rothschild Boulevard was no longer capable of serving the purpose for which it was assigned. In 1962 the municipality set aside a large tract of land on King Saul Boulevard and in 1971 the new building was inaugurated. It contains many chambers and pavilions for display as well as a large auditorium.

Obverse
In the center, a stylized panel depicting the new museum. Above, an inscription in Hebrew "The Tel Aviv Museum", in English below.

Reverse
In the center, stylized Hebrew letters spell out the verse The work of skillful hands". Underneath, the source of the quote "Song of Songs 7:2" in Hebrew and English. On the rim, the English translation of the verse.

Edge
The State emblem and the words "State of Israel" in Hebrew and English. The inscription "Nissan 24-5731 -19.4.71." The silver medals bear "Silver 935" in Hebrew and "Sterling" in English.
