14th Maccabiah

The 14th Maccabiah Games took place in Israel from July 5th-15th, 1993, with the participation of some 5,500 Jewish athletes from 50 countries around the world. The Maccabiah is the largest Jewish sporting event. It was established in 1932 and continued after Israel achieved statehood. Now, for the first time since World War II, delegations from Romania, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cuba and Aruba, are taking part. The 14th Maccabiah consisted of 34 types of competition, special events for veterans, a youth Maccabiah and games for the disabled. In addition to the sports, cultural events and trips designed to strengthen the bond between Israel and the Diaspora took place. The slogan of the 14th Maccabiah is "This Time Like No Other".

Obverse: Symbol of the Maccabiah - a stylized Star of David creating the number "14". Along the circumference, the inscription "14th maccabiah israel 1993", in Hebrew and English.

Reverse: Three runners with Jerusalem in the background. Passage "I HAVE GATHERED THEM TO THEIR OWN LAND" and source "EZEKIEL 39" appears in Hebrew along circumference above and in English on lower part of medal.

Edge: State emblem with the words "STATE OF ISRAEL' in Hebrew on the right and in English on the left and serial number. Bronze/tombac medal - "BRONZE" in Hebrew and English; Silver medal - "Silver 935" in Hebrew and English; gold medal - "G-916.6"

Serialization: All medals are numbered. Bronze/tombac - 1,495 numbered; 259 melted. Silver - 1,165 numbered; 140 melted.

Mint: Bronze/tombac and gold - Kretschmer. Silver and gold - The Government Mint.
