Succot
State Medal, 1992 5752

Succot (Feast of Tabernacles) is known as the "Time of Our Rejoicing," marking the culmination of the period of introspection, the Days of Repentance. Succot is also known as the "Season of the Harvest". The feature of this holiday are the succot, temporary dwellings resembling those in which our forefathers dwelt following the Exodus from Egypt. It is customary to invite guests to the succot, including the Seven Divine Guests: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Aaron and David. It is an obligation to acquire the Four Species: a palm frond, myrtle, willow and an etrog (a citrus fruit resembling a lemon), which are held together to symbolize the unity of the Jewish people. This is one of the three holidays of pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

Obverse: The inscription "SUCCOT" in Hebrew and Latin letters is surrounded by four palm fronds, forming the outline of a succa, with two pomegranates above each frond.

Reverse: The Four Species: Etrog, palm frond, myrtle and willow, with a curved ribbon joining them. Above, in Hebrew, the inscription "You shall rejoice on your festival".

Edge:
State emblem with the words "STATE OF ISRAEL' in Hebrew on the right and in English on the left and serial number. Bronze/tombac medal - "BRONZE" in Hebrew and English; Silver medal - "Silver 935" in Hebrew and English; gold medal - milled.

Serialization: Bronze/tombac and silver medals are numbered.

Design: Obverse - Ehud Shafrir. Reverse - Ruben Nutels.

Engraving: Kretschmer.

Mint:
Bronze/tombac and gold - Kretschmer.
Silver - The Government Mint.
