Tel Aviv Jubilee
State Medal, 5119-1959

The cradle of Tel Aviv lies in the early Jewish neighborhoods set up outside Jaffa. The first house was built in "Neve Tzedek" in 1839 when it, and later "Neve Shalom" were still part of the Jaffa Municipality. Only after "Ahuzat Bayit" Association acquired, with the help of the Jewish National Fund, a large tract of sand dunes to the north east of Jaffa, was the foundation laid for the first house in the "Ahuzat Bayit" area (5669-1909), which later was given a new name. The name was taken from the book written by Benjamin (Theodore) Herzl and translated by Nahum Sokolov into Hebrew - "Tel Aviv".

Obverse
The sand dunes, the waves, remind us of the early Tel Aviv. On the right, a Star of David. On the left, the verse: 'Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end will greatly increase".
On the rim the English translation and the source: Job 8:7.

Reverse
A schematic rendition of a large, prosperous city and on the right an inscription: 'Tel Aviv 5669-5719" beside an olive branch.
On the rim below, in English: "Tel Aviv 1909-1959".

Edge
The State emblem and the words: "State of Israel" in Hebrew and in English.
