100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF TEL-HAI
STATE MEDAL

On March 1, 1920, the Jewish settlement of Tel-Hai in northern Israel was attacked by hundreds of rioting Arabs and Bedouins. Six of the men and women protecting the settlement, including their commander Joseph Trumpeldor, fell in the battle after a heroic fight. Just moments before his death, Trumpeldor had said, "It is good to die for our country." The Battle of Tel-Hai has come to be a symbol of the right to immigrate to Israel and settle the Land, heroism and self-sacrifice.

The 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Tel-Hai is commemorated on this special medal struck in silver and bronze versions. One side of the medal depicts the Courtyard of Tel-Hai, the historical battle place, and the nearby Roaring Lion Monument sculpted by Avraham Melnikov. On the other side is a portrait of Joseph Trumpeldor. The medal is issued in partnership between ICMC and the Tel-Hai Trustees Association.
