IN HONOR OF TERROR VICTIMS
STATE MEDAL 5764/2004
Since the beginning of the struggle for Israel’s independence to date, thousands have been victim to terrorist activities, leaving scores of bereaved parents, widows and orphans. Just as thousands of soldiers and members of the security forces have lost their lives over the years, so have many civilians, young and old alike. These civilians represent the highest price that Israel has paid in order to survive as a sovereign State.
The entire country is committed to commemorating the memories of those who lost their lives and to supporting the bereaved families who share a common fate. A sense of solidarity is felt for the families of the killed and wounded, both in Israel and throughout the Diaspora. This medal conveys the esteem and appreciation for the victims of terrorist activities and their families. It expresses the deep pain and a prayer to the Almighty to spare us from waves of terror. The flower – symbol of the organization representing victims of terrorist activities, expresses hope for all the broken hearted, for a better future.
Obverse: Raised sections, fragments of a broken circle, detached from each other as if blown apart by an explosion; a flower is displayed in the middle. The inscription “IN HONOR OF TERROR VICTIMS” appears in Hebrew on the upper fragments of the circle, along with the Israel State Emblem. The English translation appears on the lower fragments.
Reverse: The medal portrays the sense of fear and anxiety, the anger and helplessness of innocent civilians caught in the midst of a malicious and horrific terrorist activity. Images of people, detached from each other as if blown apart by an explosion and a small teddy bear dropped by a child. The verse “Save me from murderers” and the source, “Psalms 59:3” appears along the bottom part of the medal in Hebrew and English.
Edge: State emblem with the words "STATE OF ISRAEL" inscribed in Hebrew on the right and in English on the left; the metal and serial number.
