EVERYONE HAS A NAME
STATE MEDAL 5763/2003
IN MEMORY OF THE HOLOCAUST VICTIMS
“Everyone Has a Name” is the first State Medal to be issued in memory of the individual victims of the Holocaust. It serves as a tangible memorial for future generations. The medal was authorized by the Ministerial Committee for Ceremonies and Symbols, assisted by a prestigious Public Committee. The general medal, commemorating all of the Holocaust victims, was issued in bronze, silver and gold.
Obverse: The Star of David with the word “Jude”, reminiscent of the yellow patch worn by the Jews of the ghettos and in the camps, with flames of fire burning in the lower part of the medal. The silver medal bears a yellow silk screen in place of the patch. The words “REMEMBER…NEVER FORGET” are inscribed in Hebrew along the upper border of the medal and in English along the lower border.
Reverse: On the general medal – the words “IN MEMORY OF THE HOLOCAUST VICTIMS” are inscribed in Hebrew and in English, above barbed wire. The words are also inscribed in Yiddish, along the upper border, and in French along the lower border. On the personal medal – the words ‘EVERYONE HAS A NAME” are inscribed in Hebrew along the upper border and in English along the lower border. The middle of the medal is blank - intended for inscription of the individual name (on the bronze and silver medals). Barbed wire appears along the lower border of the medal.
Edge: State emblem with the words "STATE OF ISRAEL" inscribed in Hebrew on the right and in English on the left; the serial number.
Designer: Yossi Lemel – some 150 members of his family perished in the Holocaust.
Silk Screen: Eldan, Silk Screens.
