Israel income Tax Commission
Official Award medal, 5752-1991
Income tax was first introduced in 1941 under British mandatory rule. Income tax offices were located in Jerusalem, Haifa and Tel Aviv. The population numbered 1.5 million; the number of income taxpayers was 25,000. Today, 50 years later, the Income Tax Commission has 3,600 employees dealing with 260,000 self-employed workers, 63,000 companies and 120,000 employers, together deducting taxes from approximately 1.5 million paid employees. The Income Tax Commission is also responsible for property and purchase taxes. Over the years, an efficient network has been established, providing roughly half of the Government's income while protecting the taxpayer's rights.
Obverse: Hebrew inscription "50 Years of the Income Tax Commission in Land of Israel", emblem of the Commission, and the years "1941-1991 5701-5751" along circumference on bottom.
Reverse: Hebrew inscription "and King Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel" and source "Kings I, 5:27".
Edge: State emblem with "STATE OF ISRAEL' in Hebrew on right and in English on the left, "SILVER 935" in Hebrew and English, and serial number.
Designer: T. Gavish.
