Official Award Medal, 5722-1962

The American Jewish Congress is an American Jewish organization. Its aims are to defend Jewish rights in America and elsewhere, to fight anti-Semitism, to defend the principles of equal rights for all without regard to ethnic, religious and racial origin. In addition to its loyalty to the United States, the Congress emphasizes the need to be concerned with the welfare of the State of Israel and its development. The American Jewish Congress held its convention in Jerusalem in June 1962.

Obverse: Within an incuse circle a raised emblem of the Israel Government Tourist Corporation: two men carrying a cluster of grapes (after: "And they carried it on a pole between two" Numbers 13:23). Below the emblem, the English inscription, "Presented by the Israel Government Tourist Corporation". Around the rim, the Hebrew inscription, 'The American Jewish Congress Conference in Israel, Sivan 5722".

Reverse: On a raised panel occupying a third of the medal to the right, the Congress emblem in English letters AJC forming a six pointed star. At the upper point of the emblem, the traditional shofar. On the left, the English inscription, "American Jewish Congress, Conference in Israel, June 1962".

Edge: The State emblem and the words "State of Israel" in Hebrew and English.
