In 1999, a new series of banknotes was issued to replace the previous series, mainly in order to upgrade the security elements of the banknote. The new banknotes carry the images of the same people as the previous series. The pictures in the background relate to the activities of the person depicted on the banknote. A major change apart from the security element against counterfeiting is the fact that the notes are designed vertically rather than horizontally.

The design of the images on the front of the banknote is made up of the Hebrew initials of the name of the person who appears on the note. The common features on all the banknotes of this series are:
Front- In the top right-hand corner the denomination appears in words and digits, the words "Bank of Israel" appear in Hebrew, the denomination appears in the bottom left-hand corner in gold metallic digits.
Back- The denomination appears in words and digits, the words "Bank of Israel" appear in English and Arabic, the denomination of the note appears in the lower right-hand corner in digits. On the lower part of the note the denomination is written in very large digits in iridescent ink. A triangle composed of small squares, with the apex pointing to the right is printed in optical variable ink.
Both sides: latent image- a triangle in the right-hand corner, security thread- through the paper below the centre of the note, see through- a small triangle printed on each side of the note' the tow triangles from a precise Star of David, signatures- governor of the Bank of Israel, Jacob Frenkel and Chairman of the Advisory Council, Rabbi Shlomo Lorincz.
