STATE MEDAL

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, the foundation stone of the Zionist vision and pillar of higher education in Israel, celebrates its 100 th anniversary.

Since its grand opening in 1925 on Mount Scopus in Jerusalem, the University has been a symbol of higher learning, research and culture in Israel. From its early days until the present, its contribution to research and academic studies has been immense in diverse domains, including the humanities, social and exact sciences, medicine, law and agriculture. As a national institution established by the Jewish people for the Jewish people, the Hebrew University has continued to be a source of inspiration, innovation and influence, in both national and international arenas.

In honor of the 100 th anniversary of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, this unique medal, issued in silver and bronze versions, celebrates and commemorates one hundred years of research, higher education and innovation.

One side of the medal depicts the university’s Mount Scopus Campus, bearing the university emblem, alongside cypress trees typical of the Jerusalem landscape, crowned by the university’s centennial emblem. Featured on the other side is the “theater of steps”, part of the Hebrew University Mount Scopus Campus, where the inaugural ceremony of the university took place, 100 years ago, with its splendid view of the hills of the Judean Desert and City of Jerusalem.
Around the upper border is the Hebrew inscription from the Book of Proverbs 9:1, “Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn her seven pillars”, referring essentially to building a life based on wisdom and anchored by strong foundational principles.
