INTELLIGENCE CORPS
Official Medal 2008/5769
Seventh in the "IDF Fighting Units" Series

The IDF Intelligence Corps was established in June 1948 during the War of Independence, replacing the Intelligence Service of the Hagana.
The Directorate of Military Intelligence – Agaf HaModi'in, abbreviated to "Aman" in Hebrew – is part of the IDF Central Command. It is charged with supplying intelligence information to the IDF, Minister of Defense, Government, and to other official bodies dealing with security and strategic foreign relations of Israel. The Intelligence Corps falls under the jurisdiction of the Directorate and its primary responsibility is to provide intelligential warning of the outbreak of war and terror activity against Israel and to evaluate possible diplomatic agreements.
Since Biblical times Israel has been aware of the importance of the collection, analysis and dissemination of intelligence.
The many historic achievements of the Intelligence Corps have earned it a worldwide reputation for excellence.

Obverse:
The spies sent out by Moses at the time of the Exodus from Egypt are transformed into soldiers. The bunches of grapes symbolize the fruitfulness of the land, as they reported back to Moses.

Reverse:
Elements representing modern electronic intelligence-gathering equipment. The lily on the earphones is the emblem of the Corps because the Biblical spies crushed the bulbs of the lily and used the resulting powder as dye to camouflage their faces. Around the edge is a passage from Ezekiel: I have set thee a watchman to the house of Israel. (33:7).

Edge: smooth

Design: Meir Eshel
