Zim 50th Anniversary
Official Award Medal, 5755-1995

On June 7,1945, a new corporation was registered with the British mandatory authorities. It was called Zim, Israel Shipping Corporation. The name Zim comes from the Bible: "Ships (Zim) from the quarter of Kittim" (Numbers). It was given to the company by David Remez, later appointed first Transportation Minister of the State of Israel. The Jewish Agency, The Histadrut and Eretz Israel Maritime Authority founded the company. The company began with the ship Kedma. After the establishment of the State, Zim transported refugees and new immigrants and over the years it established a large and diverse worldwide network. Zim is not only a shipping company, but a modern, integrated, international transportation land, sea and air network.

Obverse: Fifty-year symbol of Zim - the globe with the number "50" at the center, seven stars, the inscription "Zim" in Hebrew and English and the years "1945-1995". Above the symbol, the years 5705-5755. Below the symbol, wavy lines and the inscription "ALL WAYS-ZIM" in Hebrew and English.

Reverse: Truck, crane lifting container, ship, and airplane, with Zim headquarters in background. Along the circumference, the inscription "LIKE THE MERCHANTS SHIPS... FROM AFAR" with source "PROVERBS 31,14" in Hebrew and English.

Edge: IGCMC emblem and initials "I.G.C.M.C." in Hebrew on the right and in English on the left, with serial number. Bronze/tombac medal - "BRONZE" in Hebrew and English; Silver medal - "S 999.9" in Hebrew and English, in Hebrew and English.

Serialization: All medals are numbered.

Designer: Yaacov Enyedi.

Engraving: Tidhar Dagan.

Mint: Bronze/tombac - Kretschmer. Silver - Hecht.
