The Jewish Bride by Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn
Bronze Oval State Medal

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn was a Dutch painter, draftsman, and printmaker. After completing his studies, Rembrandt returned to his hometown and began painting. His paintings were successful, and in 1631 he moved to Amsterdam and settled there. His technique and ability to convey a powerful emotion on canvas allowed him to compete within a short time with the painters Elias and Thomas de Keyser and become the most sought-after portrait painter in the city.
The work "The Jewish Bride," 1665, depicts a Jewish bride and groom as they appeared in his time. According to one belief, these are the figures of Isaac and Rebecca. The couple has an expression of quiet happiness, and their body language conveys closeness and warmth. The warm colors, in the light that falls on the figures, radiate love and peace that penetrate the heart. On the other side of the medal is the engraving "David."
