ISRAEL AMONG THE NATIONS COIN SERIES

Prior to the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Israel joined the group of countries that were issuing commemorative coins in honor of the Olympic Games. The Israeli Olympic Committee had recommended dedicating the Israel Coin to Windsurfing, the Olympic sport in which Israel was especially hoping to win medals, following previous successes. The prediction came true, when windsurfer Gal Friedman won an Olympic gold medal for the first time in Israel's history.

The coin was issued in cooperation with the Israel Olympic Committee and a portion of the proceeds from sales was given to the committee to assist in the financing of the Olympic delegation of Israel.

Coin Description

Obverse:
Face value in Hebrew and English, Israel State Emblem, "Israel" in English, Hebrew and Arabic, 4 images of windsurfers to the left and inscription "THE OLYMPIC DELEGATION OF ISRAEL 2004" along the border in Hebrew and English.

Reverse:
Images of windsurfers in competition, "WINDSURFING" along the lower border, in Hebrew, English and Arabic.
