Israeli Food Industry
Official Award Medal, 5739-1979

What is unique about the food industry in Israel is that it is based upon local agriculture which supplies the raw material. Sun, soil and progressive agricultural practices have combined to produce record yields, part of which is channeled to the food industry. The part of the food industry that does not depend upon local agricultural supplies has also attained a high level, enabling it to compete in quality and price in world markets. Large investment in automation, research and development has brought about sophistication in all parts of the industry, which employs more than 40,000 people.
