Official Award Medal, 5730-1970


"WIZO", the initials of the "Women's International Zionist Organization" was founded in London in 1 920. Its main aims then were - to organize women for Zionist activities, to train women and girls in Palestine for constructive work and to tend to the health and education of children in Palestine.
WIZO is made up of 35 national organizations all over the world. In the U.S. by agreement, "Hadassah" controls all WIZO activities. The headquarters of the WIZO World Council is in Israel.
WIZO activities in Israel are numerous and varied and are conducted in close collaboration with national and local authorities - the Jewish Agency, local workers' councils, etc.

Obverse
A stylized figure of mother and child on a stylized globe. On the rim: "50th Anniversary World WIZO 1970".

Reverse
Below, to the right, the number 50 inside a Star of David. In the centre, a stylized globe of the world. Raised are 50 images - symbols of the Jubilee Festival around the world. On the rim "Fiftieth Jubilee of World WIZO 5730-1970".

Edge
The State emblem and the words "State of Israel" in Hebrew and English. On 3310 medals, minted by Kretschmer, the word "WIZO" appears in Hebrew and English as well as "1920-1970". The other 2492 medals, minted by Hecht, have no inscription.
