Tribe of "Naphtali"
State Medal, 1994 5754

The Tribe of Naphtali medal is the fourth in the series of twelve drawings by Salvador Dali in honor of the 25th anniversary of the State of Israel. Inspiration to depict Naphtali as a deer with antlers comes from Jacob's blessing: "a hind let loose: he gives goodly words" (Genesis 49:21). The goodly words in Jacob's blessing take the form of a young girl dancing opposite the deer.

Obverse: Tribe of "Naphtali" - colored silk-screen depicting a dear and a young girl dancing in front of it. Above, the inscription "NAPHTALI" in Hebrew and English. Below, artist's signature.

Reverse: Dali's work, a seven-branch menorah and circle of figures dancing the hora. In the lower portion, along the circumference, the artist's signature

Edgs: State emblem with the words "STATE OF ISRAEL' in Hebrew on the right and in English on the left and serial number. Bronze/tombac medal - "BRONZE" in Hebrew and English; Silver medal - "S 999" in Hebrew and English; gold medal - "G-750" in Hebrew and English

Designer: Graphics - Ronit Berzon. Reverse, sculpture - Mark Salman. Silk screening - Reshet Meshi.

Mint: Bronze/tombac and silver - Kretschmer. Gold - The Government Mint.
