New York Twin Towers Memorial Monument
State Medal

In 2009, a new monument was inaugurated in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001 in the Emeq HaArazim in Jerusalem.

The monument was designed by the artist Eliezer Weisshof and rises to a height of nine meters.

Weishoff says: "This is the only monument outside the United States where the names of all those who perished in the disaster appear. In the center of the square stands a bronze statue in which the folds of the US flag form a kind of torch, placed on an aluminum cone and inside a window with a section of the ruins of the towers sent by the New York City for fixing it at the base of the statue. This monument is the fruit of initiative, design and performance. A state medal and a postage stamp were also dedicated to the sculpture in my designs. " From the book "Eliezer Weisshof / Works along the way".

Face: On the face of the medal is a monument, surrounded by a mention of the Jerusalem landscape and the inscription in Hebrew "A monument in memory of the victims of the New York twin disaster". In the upper part of the medal is written in English "In Remembrance of W.T.C Tragedy New York" and in the lower part "Jerusalem Municipality JNF / KKL".

Back: Date of the attack 9.11.2001 with the Twin Towers representing the number 11, below the date the New York City skyline. The emblem of the State of Israel appears at the top and above it is written in Hebrew "The contribution of the city of Jerusalem to the city of New York" and at the bottom "in collaboration with the Jewish National Fund".

Edge: State emblem, "State of Israel" in Hebrew and English, metal and serial number.

Design: Eliezer Weisshof.
