Fourth medal in the "Prime Ministers of Israel" Series.

Golda Meir was born in 1898, in Kiev, Russian Empire (today Ukraine). In 1906 she emigrated with her family to Milwaukee, United States, where she completed her High School studies and graduated from a Teachers Seminary. In 1921, Golda emigrated to Israel with her husband Morris Meyerson and soon became involved in political and social affairs. As head of the State Department of the Jewish Agency, she was the principal figure in negotiations held with the British. Golda Meir was the first Ambassador of Israel to the Soviet Union. In 1949, she was appointed as Minister of Labor in Israel and she worked diligently to build the country and encourage further aliya. In 1956, she was appointed Foreign Minister and held the post for nine years. In February 1969, Golda Meir became the fourth Prime Minister of Israel. She resigned after the Yom Kippur War, in 1974. Golda Meir excelled as a practical stateswoman, plain in her ways and style, but strong and sensitive to the needs of the people. She passed away in 1978.
